“A Land of Ghosts” is based on the folklore of Asian Buddhism. That intended to examine the roots of local community through its psychosocial characteristics. As same region of Asia, natives and migrants were raised in the same land and diverse mix of cultures, languages, behaviors and believes. In Myanmar, present lives may connect to afterlife spiritual in common, relating souls of Deva and Devil, seemingly both are causes in our Samsara like Asians beliefs of “Hungry Ghost” perform by the evil deeds. Souls incarnated as humans, animal or trees on earth everything are related. The desire of human spirits belong to plants and trees to be ghost before they reincarnation. This installation reconsiders these beliefs and realities through the perception of visual hybridity of historical evidences of humanity how deepest relationship into natural environment. We believe there is no unchanging permanent self or soul we are in a circle of metamorphosis.

Profile: Aung Myat Htay was born In Mandalay, Myanmar (1973), currently based In Yangon, Myanmar. Started the art education at Fine Art school in Mandalay and graduated BFA in University of Art and culture, Yangon. Without being confined by traditional means of expression, he explores the potential in the freedom of expression found In contemporary art. He expresses social messages with work that combines a contemporary sense with traditional forms of painting and sculpture. He is also known as a curator in Myanmar's art community since 1998 In addition to his Involvement Within Myanmar, He has presented work in several regions of asia including Thailand, India, Indonesia and the Philippines. In 2010 he participated In Fukuoka Asian Art Museum's residency program. In 2011 he participated in Live Art 2011 in Banglore, India. Recently he participated at the Koganecho Bazaar International art festival at Yokohama,Japan.In 2013-2014, he got a 6 month grant from ACC (Asian Cultural council) for New York Residency program to research contemporary art practice, meet the artist & curator and create new work in USA.
